We hope this chain of events that lead nowhere will make for a nice lesson to our next mayor. If our next mayor cares about legal American’s, legal hispanics and the ability of the CMPD to help them he will change this. Our next mayor can help the helpless legal americans looking for work while companies employ 10,000 illegal aliens.

The short version is, his mother is hispanic and a legal resident of the US and North Carolina. His mother works for a company here in Charlotte in a warehouse. The company staffs about 30 people in the warehouse and 22 of them are illegal immigrants. The illegals work with fake documents or using a relatives ID. The company knows they are illegals and uses them to bring in their friends direct from Mexico and Honduras when they need more staff.

Our friend sent an email with the problems and how this company is bringing in illegal during a time of 12% unemployment for Americans.

He pointed out the manager’s name, the company, and the address. he asked them just to go see the staff as they arrive or just take a look.

He pointed out that some of the staff still have Mexico plates on their vehicles.

The email was sent on january 16th, 2009 to the following people:

“Mine is a real Charlotte family that is, after months of this frustration, really feeling left out to dry and concerned for the safety of an older lady just trying to pay her bills and be an American.”

The first to respond was Mayor Pat McCrory, some of the response our friend received is here:
“Thanks for the note and sharing your concerns. I am sorry to hear that you have a fear for your mother-in-law. You have contacted all of the right people and all of the ones that I would go too. Unfortunately, as Mayor I have no jurisdiction over this type of situation. I will send your message to the Police Chief and Mecklenburg Sheriff offices and let them know that you have contacted me.

I hope that you and your family do everything possible to remain safe and I would encourage you to not give up the fight for what is right.

Pretty standard stuff, and we are happy to know that although it is not something he himself deals with from his office he does know that the fight is “right” and justified. If the mayor can’t do anything, can he not make changes so in the future he has the resources to do something? A mayor should learn from this situation and get his hand “untied” so he can help the next person or 10,000 people in this situation without work.

The email was then forwarded by Peggy Huffmann at the mayor’s office to Julia Rush at the sheriffs office.
Ms. Rush then wrote him back an email suggesting ICE as the sherriffs department does not deal with matters like this.

Julia Rush wrote to him this in an email:
” wanted to let you know the Sheriff’s Office takes all citizen concerns seriously. However, in this situation, the only thing I can suggest is to contact Immigrations Customs Enforcement at 704-679-6140. That is the tip hotline number provided to us by Immigration. The Sheriff’s Office does not perform Immigration investigations (ICE handles this) or criminal investigations (CMPD handles this.) We do, however, process any individual who is arrested in Mecklenburg County and check their immigration status.”

The response was fast and helpful and he said Julia later talked with him on the phone directly to address his concerns and see if there was any dangerous crimes related to the situation.

The sherriff, the police chief and the original source of the email tip the mayor’s office.

Rodney Monroe sent this email to his deputy and everyone else who had been involved so far was of course copied in.

“Deputy Chief Graham
Below a citizen has outlined various concerns with a location within the city, please reach out to our federal partners with ICE to see if they have any prior knowledge of the location or complaints.Also proceed with determining any other facts that may lead to suspicious or criminal activity”

Another fast response, but he is still trying to get in touch with someone, anyone that can visit the site and see for themselves. The deputy chief forwarded the email to 3 CMPD officers and asked one of them to followup. One of them did followup a day later.

A police officer who we wont name just to be respectful followed up with him in about 4 emails back and forth to get his questions answered. He asked about gang activity or evidence of any. The officer also was curious about the false documents and if they were produced on site or just used and accepted by the company with them in full knowledge.

Our friend informed him that the company does know about the fake documents and encourages employess to bring other illegals to them for work.

The officer also informed him that unless there is a gang or “serious crime” at the location then only ICE really can act. He said they have only one line and its the same one they have to call and generally can’t get through to anyone anyway.

The conversation back and forth ended as our friend says his mother got uneasy with the amount of questions. She is an older women scared for her job and 1 year from legal citizenship and didn’t want any more trouble or inquiries. she also feared the illegals at work would find out and do something to her directly.

This story surfaced today since the company closed its doors and laid off all the staff. We had sat on this because we feel that most everyone involved does a pretty good job “day to day” but there is nobody to turn to in matter of illegal aliens in the workplace.

This also felt like a perfect time since both John Lassiter and Anthony Fox were included in the original email. I imagine they are scanning their outlook history now to see it for themselves.

While our friend may not realize this isn’t really a place for city counsel to step in, it is something for the future mayor to see and realize what it means to have Charlotte helpless as a a sanctuary city.

Maybe our next mayor will see that this man’s mother is in an unsafe environment competing for work with illegal immigrants that mock the law. People who know the Sheriff, Mayor and CMPD are helpless to do anything to help a legal taxpaying resident like her.

Our future mayor should also see 30 good jobs with benefits and 22 of them were illegal employees. A company that preferred to track down more illegal employees than hire legal Hispanic Americans like his mother.

Please share your feelings about not having a job while thousands of illegals come to charlotte to compete for them. Let your next mayor know that 12% unemplyment and allowing criminal aliens to work in Charlotte DO NOT MIX.
